The much celebrated team of J.H. Williams III and Hayden Blackman are unceremoniously shoved aside to fold Batwoman into the 'Bat Family'. Taking over? Writer Marc Andreyko, probably known best for his work on 'Manhunter' for D.C., and an art team of six!! that was clearly rushed into action. At Marvel in the 70's, the credit would have read 'D. Hands' which was code for 'Deadline Crunching Book'. The story neatly and unnecessarily sets up that the Kane and Wayne families are such long friends that Kate (she's Batwoman!) knows Alfred enough to be familiar because SHE'S family. Considering what readers have been spoiled with over the 8 years this character has been around, it's all depressing and ugly to boot. I suppose its for the best that the innovative layouts Williams produced are not aped here at all. This is a book that should have ended and been relaunched at a later date if sales were so poor that it needed a new direction. It's set during Zero Year if you're a completest, but ask your manager for a better Bat book and I guarantee they'll find you one.
